Job Description

A position is available for a motivated and detail-oriented team-player. The Melenhorst laboratory is a newly established research group in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania. By studying T cell biology in cancer patients and the tumor microenvironment in chronic lymphocytic leukemia and other malignancies we aim to understand and improve the anti-tumor efficacy of adoptively transferred gene-modified T cells. The laboratory has identified mechanisms of response to CAR T cell therapy in chronic lymphocytic leukemia and developed an ex vivo model system to identify the most potent precursor cells of CAR T cells. We are hiring a highly motivated research specialist B with a strong background in translational immunology. This position will assist in maintaining laboratory reagent and supply inventories, keeping laboratory records (i.e., regulatory and administrative documents) up-to-date; processing fresh cells from leukemia and myeloma patients, perform cell cultures, prepare lentiviral constructs, flow cytometric experiments (data acquisition) and electronic and magnetic sorts. Additionally, this individual will assist with the in vivo experiments as carried out by the post-doc.

Position contingent upon funding.

Minimum Qualifications

BA degree in science and 1-3 years of demonstrated experience in academic cellular immunology research or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.  A broad knowledge base of immunology including the biology of human T cells is desired. Demonstrated abilities to multi-task and exhibiting effective time management skills are required.  Prior laboratory experience including mammalian tissue culture is required. Specialized training on utilizing multi-color flow cytometric instruments and data analysis using Flow Jo software is preferred.   Hands-on experience with quantitative PCR platforms preferred. Candidate must exhibit excellent computer skills, including expertise in Microsoft Office applications.  Preference will be given to candidates who indicate a strong desire to build a career in the medical field
