Widening Participation Research and Impact Evaluation Officer

Salary: Band H - £33,797-£35,845 per annum
Start date: November 16th (or as soon as possible thereafter)
Hours: 36 hours per week
Term: Permanent
Leave: 23 days per annum, plus University Closure Days and Bank Holidays.

This exciting new role at St Mary’s University is an opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced researcher/impact evaluation professional who can shape and develop clear and robust evaluation strategies that measure the impact of a wide variety of Widening Participation interventions across the student lifecycle. Because this a new role, we are looking for an accomplished and enthusiastic individual to take a lead on designing, developing and delivering evaluation work within a Theory of Change framework and work collaboratively to drive the collection and collation of quantitative and qualitative data related to student access, engagement, success and progression (academic and employment related) and undertake analysis to enable us to evidence, measure, demonstrate and report on the impact of our APP funding commitments.

Based at the university’s leafy campus in Twickenham, you will join the Widening Participation Department and report to the Head of Widening Participation within the Centre for Teaching Excellence and Student Success. You will work closely with a range of professionals across the university, including the WP and Outreach Team, Student Engagement and Student Experience leads, academic and support staff, Employability Services and other key individuals and departments who play essential roles in delivering projects or initiatives or managing student data. You will also liaise with some key external partners in this field.

During this time of blended work from home and on campus, as a result of the Covid-19 crisis, the successful candidate will be expected to respond flexibly and creatively, to engage remotely, design and deliver content through a variety of different technologies and media and establish and maintain meaningful relationships with a wide range of colleagues.

We are seeking candidates with strong relationship management skills and excellent organization and project management skills, as well as research and evaluation experience. We are a team that works closely to achieve our overall goals, with a strong collaborative ethos and are expecting that this role will develop and extend this working practice.

Closing Date: Monday 26th October 11.59pm

Interviews are likely to be held on Thursday or Friday 5th/6th November and may be conducted remotely. Please ensure that you are able to access appropriate technology for the interview process if required.

Company

Established in 1850 and with a deep heritage in education, St Mary’s University, Twickenham has a strong reputation for teaching excellence and a student-centred approach.

St Mary’s University is a modern, friendly and welcoming university situated in the leafy borough of Richmond upon Thames and a short train journey away from the hustle and bustle of central London. St Mary’s is on an exciting journey of transformation and growth, to benefit students, staff and the wider St Mary’s community. As the University builds on its proud heritage, it is looking for exceptional people to help shape its progressive future.  Our current strategy, Vision 2025, is focused on people and place, with the aim of creating a positive learning environment centred on our campus.

We are a strong and welcoming community of students and staff and are committed to the highest standards in teaching across our wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. In 2019, we were again awarded Outstanding status by Ofsted and in the 2018 National Student Survey, St Mary’s ranked first in London for Teaching Excellence and Student Experience, contributing to our jump of 56 places in the NSS league table.

We have also seen our second successive significant rise in the Sunday Times Good University Guide. Our rise of 39 places since 2017 positions us as 12th in London and 77th nationality. Other significant league table changes include a rise of 25 places in the 2019 Guardian University Guide league table, to 80th in the UK, and 17 places in the Complete University Guide as a notable climber.

In addition, we have a vibrant culture and environment.

Our core values; inclusiveness, generosity of spirit, respect and excellence underpin all we do as a University and we are actively working to embed these into our daily behaviours.  We want to create the best possible conditions for our students and staff to develop into independent problem solvers and ethical leaders, enthusiastic about knowledge and learning, and able to get things done.

You will find further information on the web pages about our University. If you are excited by the opportunity to join St Mary’s and help us to realise our ambitious plans, then we look forward to hearing from you.
