ACT473H1S L5101 – Issues in Actuarial Practice (2 Positions 0.25FCE)

Case study approach to current issues in life insurance, pension consulting and casualty actuarial practice. The focus of the course will be on   communication and presentation. This course is Pass/Fail. Not eligible for Credit/No Credit.  The course is open to students in the specialist program in actuarial science. Students in the major program in actuarial science can enrol into the course with permission of the department.

60 hours - The availability of SIA support is contingent on class enrolment and class size.

Schedule 

Mondays 6:00pm to 8:00pm

This course may be offered in an online format.

Tutorial

Wednesdays 5:00pm to 6:00pm; Wednesdays 6:00pm to 7:00pm

Tutorials may be offered in an online format.

Sessional Dates

January 1, 2021 to April 30, 2021 – This course is co-taught.

Salary 

$8,489.67 for Sessional Lecturer I; $8,869.25 for Sessional Lecturer I Long Term; $9085.58 for Sessional Lecturer II; $9301.90 for Sessional Lecturer III (Rates will be pro-rated to FCE.)

Qualifications: Minimum Master’s degree required, PhD preferred in Statistics, Applied Statistics, Actuarial Science, Biostatistics or related discipline. Prior experience teaching at the university level. Prior experience teaching ACT473 or a similar course an asset.

Description of duties: Teaching; setting and invigilating term tests and final examinations; reporting final grades; counseling students; supervising sessional instructional assistant(s).
