Temporary Research Fellow (Population Health) in Professor John Chambers’ team

Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) is looking for a Temporary Research Fellow who is self-motivated, proactive in problem solving, collegial and strong team player. The Temporary Research Fellow will be responsible for setting up a harmonized data and sample repository for multi-site studies led by Professor John Chambers. The post will be based in Singapore at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Novena Campus. 

The candidate will play a key role mainly in, but not limited to, the following roles:

Ensure accountable and traceable sample collection processes across the ongoing population health study sites

  • Set up repository of sample collection protocols across ongoing population health study sites.
  • Where and when possible, harmonize the sample collection processes across ongoing population health study sites.
  • Maintain a database of all available samples (and associated research data) to facilitate data and/or sample requests from research partners.
  • Maintain a secure database of all available samples (and associated research data) to ensure accountability of all samples and associated research data.

Ensure smooth operation of ongoing population health study sites supplying samples

  • 1st line surveillance platform technical support for research field teams in multiple regions.
  • 1st line equipment technical issues support and liaising with vendor for further support if necessary.
  • Coordinate regular ongoing platform maintenance process for 12 sites and 5 cloud servers.
  • Provide requirements to technology providers and oversee development and communication of ongoing platform enhancements.
  • Monitoring of study consumable items levels, coordinating procurement / logistics  when necessary, including arranging shipping to country.
  • Handle ad-hoc additional field operations requests as they arise (e.g. equipment replacements, training).
  • Conduct in-person quality assessments of operations and drive improvements.

Study data quality monitoring and improvement

  • Support data QC statistics / report generation:
    • Weekly surveillance data export, compilation and reporting.
    • Analysis and generation of QC reporting for diet and activity tracking data.
  • Surveillance data quality issues analysis, compilation, communicating to teams and driving surveillance team action.
  • Conduct regular teleconferences (group and with individual teams).
  • Fulfilment of data and/or sample requests from research partners.

Candidates should have:

Minimum PhD in any biological, biomedical or related field. Minimum 1-2 years project management experience. Experience in using word processing and data management/statistical tools, e.g., Word, Excel, Stata, R, etc. Experience in coordinating large-scale multi-site studies preferred, but not necessary.

The prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Postdoctoral Fellowship (LKY PDF) was established in 1991 under the Lee Kuan Yew Endowment Fund. The Fellowship supports and promotes young and outstanding researchers to realise their full potential in the areas of Engineering, Science, Humanities, and Medicine.

The Fellowship will be awarded concurrently with the candidate's appointment as a research staff in NTU.

Eligibility: 

• Excellent academic records and research potential.
• Recent PhD graduates, or with at most 1 postdoctoral training from a reputable university. 

Terms and Conditions: 
• The Fellowship will be tenable for a period of 3 years.  
• In addition to an attractive remuneration, the successful candidate will be awarded a research grant of S$180,000 for research consumables and research related expenditure.
