The Neuroscience Center (NC, https://www.helsinki.fi/en/helsinki-institute-of-life-science/units/neur...) is an international research unit within Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE) of the University of Helsinki, a leading Nordic university with a strong commitment to life science research. NC aims at making fundamental discoveries about brain functions and especially translate research findings into improvements in the treatment, prevention and diagnosis of psychiatric and neurological disorders. The research in NC spans across several scales from stem cell research and molecular neuroscience to systems and cognitive neuroscience in both animal and human models. The research groups of NC conduct research in neuroscience at the highest international level and actively apply the results for the benefit of the society. NC collaborates actively with other units of HiLIFE and faculties of the University of Helsinki, Helsinki University Central Hospital, and Neurocenter Finland.

The Neuroscience Center invites applications from outstanding candidates for

Research Director of in vivo rodent imaging and electrophysiology core facility

for a 5-year appointment starting the earliest from January 1, 2021 with a possibility for renewal.

The duration of the appointment is negotiable and dependent on the applicant’s qualifications. A start-up package can be provided for outstanding research intense candidates upon negotiations.

The successful candidate is expected to act as a director for the in vivo rodent imaging and electrophysiology research core facility (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/infrastructures/helsinki-in-vivo-animal-imagi...), including duties of management and further development of the core, as well as to carrying out independent neuroscience research as a PI by applying the technologies and methods made available by the core. The core facility comprises of in vivo brain microscopy unit and platforms for in vivo electrophysiological recordings in both anesthetized and awake mice.

We are seeking for candidates with excellent track-record and wide knowledge in the field of in vivo rodent brain imaging and electrophysiology. We are particularly looking for candidates with research focus that helps bridging research between rodent and human neuroscience in the Neuroscience Center. We expect candidate to further develop the research infrastructure and its services to be utilized by the wide neuroscience community of the Neuroscience Center and University.

We also expect successful candidates to obtain competitive research funding, engage in multidisciplinary research collaborations with other NC research groups and with the Helsinki neuroscience community, and participate in the supervision of students. Candidates should be able to take the advantages of the infrastructures and networks available at NC.

The qualification requirements include an applicable doctoral degree and postdoctoral training from a relevant field in neuroscience, excellent scientific track-record with high-impact publications in the expected research field as well as proven evidence to attract competitive research funding. Prior experience in administrative duties is considered an advantage.
