Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science.

Food for Health Ireland (FHI; www.fhi.ie) is a centre for functional food development funded by Enterprise Ireland and members of the Irish Food Industry. FHI combines expertise from a number of national institutes including University College Dublin, Teagasc and others. This post-doctoral position will be located at University College Dublin.

A post-doctoral candidate is sought to join a research team focusing on the maternal and infant health solutions within FHI. The research will involve conducting human studies to examine the effect of a novel nutrition supplement on immune and gut health for both mother and baby. The intervention outcome measures will include gut microbiota profiles, blood biomarkers (e.g. lipids, hormones, cytokines), epigenetic profiles, breast milk biomarkers (e.g. hormones, cytokines, SIgA), metabolomic profiles and others. The successful candidate will be involved in a number of human studies, subsequent laboratory and statistical analysis, and writing of scientific publications. As well as the scientific duties, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to management aspects of the project, supporting the lead researcher in the management of the team and work undertaken.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.
The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, and mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project:

• Conduct and manage human intervention studies
• Conduct laboratory analysis

Salary: €37,874 per annum
