Job Details

The Decision, Environmental and Organizational Neuroscience Lab and the Smart Nation Translational Laboratory, School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is seeking one full-time Research Fellow to lead research activities on an exciting project focusing on human psychological and physiological responses to noise and augmented sound environments. The project will use a combination of neuroscience, psychological and experimental approaches along with advanced engineering methods (including virtual and augmented reality) to understand how humans respond to noises and to evaluate different sound proofing systems. You will be working with a multi-disciplinary team involving engineers, neuroscientists, sound experts and psychologists. Results are to be presented to various stakeholders including governmental agencies.

Job Responsibilities

The Research Fellow will work on a project to conduct the research on developing and testing human psychological and physiological responses to sounds and noise. The roles of this position include:

  • Oversee and actively help with participant recruitment (in the lab and outdoors)
  • Develop surveys, cognitive and behavioural tasks
  • Conduct analysis of data and summarise research findings
  • Conduct literature reviews for publications and research briefings
  • Assist with preparing academic publications (e.g., journal, conference, book)
  • Contribute to the production of research reports
  • Contribute to the dissemination of research findings
  • Perform other tasks as required by the Principal Investigators

Job Requirements

Essential requirements:

  • Doctorate (PhD) degree in experimental psychology, cognitive psychology, neuropsychology, cognitive neuroscience, OR noise / sound expertise
  • Experience with statistical packages, especially R, Matlab and SPSS
  • Prior experience in conducting, collecting data for and analysing surveys, psychological testing (computerised), behavioural testing and cognitive experiments especially in Singapore
  • Experience in preparing academic reports and presentations
  • Good statistical knowledge and skills
  • Good IT skills (i.e., Microsoft Office®)
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and able to work within given deadlines

Preferred requirements:

  • Background in neuroscience, heart rate analysis or other physiological signals
  • Prior experience with interdisciplinary research and teams
  • Prior experience working with Singaporean public
  • Prior experience with academic publication processes and reports
  • Self-directed learner who effectively picks up relevant skills as needed

Terms and Conditions:
