Description

The University of Chicago's Department of Department of Anesthesia & Critical Care is searching for a full-time faculty member at any rank. Clinical responsibilities will include general anesthesia and non-operating room anesthesia environments. We are seeking those with fellowship training in any of the following areas: critical care, cardiac, pain, regional, pediatrics or obstetrics, but especially those with fellowship training or special interest in trauma and/or with a military background. Other duties will include teaching and supervision of trainees and students, and scholarly activity. Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent upon qualifications.

A separate search is for a similar appointee, but at 80% effort (http://apply.interfolio.com/74137). We encourage applications to either or both searches.

The appointee will join a vibrant and distinguished community of faculty colleagues and learners in UChicago Medicine, the Biological Sciences Division, the Pritzker School of Medicine, and the University of Chicago and its affiliates. A tradition of excellence in patient care, basic, clinical, and translational sciences, combined with the strengths of one of the world's top academic institutions provides the foundation for a career as an academic physician. The University has recently made a substantial investment in the Department of Anesthesia & Critical Care to advance academic anesthesiology. Our goal is to become one of the leading academic anesthesiology departments in the nation with a special emphasis on clinical and translational research and clinical trials. We pride ourselves on career development and will offer appropriate support to our successful candidates, including protected academic time, start-up funding, access to research training and support via the NIH Clinical and Translational Sciences Award-funded Institute of Translational Medicine.

We welcome applicants with prior research and engineering training and/or interest in innovation and entrepreneurship. Our department has established a strong relationship with the University of Chicago Polsky Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the #1-ranked university accelerator in the U.S.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must:

  1. have a medical doctorate or equivalent,
  2. hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, and
  3. be a BC/BE Anesthesiologist. Assessment of applicants will consider research and funding track record and training and, if applicable, mentorship record.
