Job Details

The School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences is seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to lead experimental efforts on local probe spectroscopy at milliKelvin temperatures of topological heterostructures and devices, harnessing the interplay of topology, superconductivity and magnetism.

Qualities we are seeking for are creativity and high impact accomplishments in low temperature experimental condensed matter physics. Facilities for the growth of heterostructures, ex-situ device nanofabrication, transport and local probe spectroscopies (both in the millikelvin regime and in high magnetic fields) have been developed to support the experimental work of the Research Fellow and other researchers in the Programme.

The Research Fellow will be employed and stationed at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. The hire is part of the recently awarded multimillion dollar 5 years research grant by the National Research Foundation (NRF) Competitive Research Programme “Towards On-Chip Topological Quantum Devices” (PI B. Weber, NTU, co-PI C. Panagopoulos, NTU and co-PI J. Goh, A*STAR).

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead experimental work on low-temperature local probe spectroscopy
  • Help with procuring equipment and consumables
  • Design and outfit of a new mK-STM lab
  • Guidance / Co-supervision of research students
  • Writing of high-tier research publications

Job Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in experimental condensed matter physics
  • Demonstrated track record of research achievements in superconductivity and topological phases of matter
  • Demonstrated ability to publish high-tier research publications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (including scientific writing)
  • Ability to work independently but also as part of a team

Detailed Technical Requirements

  • Track record in local probe spectroscopy at cryogenic temperatures
  • (T = 4.2K and below), including cryogenics handling and UHV is required
  • Experience with scanning probe systems at <500mK and in magnetic fields is desired
  • Experience with 2D and van-der-Waals materials, ideally including superconductors is desirable

Interested applicants will be required to send their details which include CV, list of publications and contact information for three professional references.

We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
