The discipline of Archaeology & Palaeoanthropology (ARPA) at the University of New England sits in the Department of Archaeology, Classics and History, and within the broader School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS). ARPA staff teach undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students, offering thematic units including Aboriginal Archaeology, Historical Archaeology, Near Eastern Archaeology, and Human Evolution, as well as archaeological method and theory. Our research and research student supervision span these same areas, with a strong emphasis on field research and archaeological science approaches to lithics, ceramics, bone and metals.

About the role

UNE is seeking an enthusiastic Lecturer in Archaeology for a four year, fixed-term contract, based in Armidale, to begin in Trimester 1, 2021. As a Lecturer, you will have a balanced load of teaching and research, alongside service responsibilities. Your work will complement and enhance the existing teaching and research activities of ARPA, and the profile of the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences more broadly.

Skills & Experience

The successful applicant will hold a PhD in Archaeology or a PhD in Anthropology with an Archaeology speciality. They must be an excellent communicator with outstanding interpersonal skills and have the ability to collaborate and develop effective professional relationships inside and outside academia. A quality research program that complements and extends current discipline research and a proven track record in securing funding is essential, alongside experience of university teaching in an online mode.
