University of Leeds University
Librarian and Keeper of the Brotherton Collection
The University of Leeds is one of the largest, most prestigious and diverse research-intensive universities in the UK. We achieved Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework, we were the Sunday Times University of the Year 2017, we are in the world’s top 100 universities in the QS rankings and in the UK’s top 10 for research power and impact. These successes are supported by an outstanding community of staff and students, a world-class campus and a strong financial position. The University also plays a key role at the heart of one of the UK’s most economically vibrant and compassionate cities, and takes its economic, social, environmental and cultural responsibilities very seriously.
The University Library and Special Collections sits at the heart of our institution, connecting a wide range of internal and external communities. Spread over five locations, it holds nearly three million items, making it one of the largest research libraries in the UK. Our current University Librarian and Keeper of the Brotherton Collection, Dr Stella Butler, has indicated her intention to step down from the role after nine successful years in post. We are therefore seeking to appoint an exceptional leader to build on the Library’s achievements, ensuring it plays a central role in the exciting new strategic vision being developed by our recently appointed Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simone Buitendijk.
With rapid advances in digital technology, an increasingly connected global community and a continued commitment to world-class academic and educational excellence, the Library will be pivotal to our future success. We are therefore seeking an individual with superb communication skills and highly developed intellectual acuity, as well as the experience, track record, and clarity of vision to explore new possibilities and maximise key opportunities. If you have the skills and experience we seek then we would be keen to hear from you.
