Chair (W2) of Practical Philosophy

(with tenure track on W3)

with a six-year contract to be filled at latest on 1st May 2021.

In being appointed to the chair, evaluation criteria will be mutually agreed upon, which will be evaluated by a TU Dresden evaluation commission at the latest in the fifth year of the appointment. Essential criteria for the evaluation will be academic success in the form of qualified publications that have been peer-reviewed according to international standards, success in the acquisition of third-party funding, proven commitment in formats of knowledge transfer, transdisciplinary commitment and the establishment of cooperation with researchers from the STEM subjects, as well as the development and conducting of courses relating to Practical Philosophy with a positively evaluated teaching performance in German and English. Following a positive evaluation, a permanent Chair (W3) of Practical Philosophy will be granted.

As one of eleven Universities of Excellence in Germany, TU Dresden offers the best conditions for research and teaching, in particular a highly attractive transdisciplinary scientific network with extramural research and cultural institutions (DRESDEN-concept). You will take an integrated approach, alongside the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science and the Institute of Philosophy, in order to strengthen the strategic Research Priority Area "Culture and Societal Change" by providing excellent research and attractive courses in promising subject areas and using future-orientated methods.

You will represent Practical Philosophy systematically and historically in its complete spectrum. Your research will ideally focus on normative ethics and its foundations, and on metaethics. We welcome experience in the fields of political philosophy, philosophy of law, the theory of action and applied ethics. Your teaching obligations include in particular the participation in the teacher training study programmes Ethics/Philosophy as well as the Bachelor and Master degree programmes in Philosophy.

You can prove your potential for outstanding publication achievements, for the successful acquisition of third-party funded projects, as well as for international and interdisciplinary cooperation by providing evidence of relevant experience. We require familiarity with academic selfadministration as well as your willingness to actively participate in the research priorities of the faculty, in collaborative research projects and interdisciplinary research.

The professorship is financed with funds from Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States for the promotion of young scientists and is aimed at top early career scholars. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG) and should be in an early postdoc phase.

TU Dresden supports tenure track professors with a programme specifically tailored to their needs. Mentoring, various coaching sessions, and special continuing education programmes and support offers provide active professional guidance throughout the duration of the temporary position at the chair.

TU Dresden seeks to employ more female professors. Hence, we particularly encourage women to apply. Applications from candidates with disabilities or those requiring additional support are very welcome. The University is a certified family-friendly university and offers a Dual Career Service.
