TECHNICAL ASSOCIATEResearch Laboratory of Electronics (RLE), to support cutting-edge research in a complex, interdisciplinary applied physical research laboratory.  Will oversee day-to-day operations and facilitate the research in the laboratory.  Responsibilities will include providing orientation and training to lab personnel on laboratory techniques, safety protocols, and general upkeep; apparatus design and assembly; serving as liaison to the Environment, Health and Safety Office, conducting safety and hazardous waste inspections, and preparing the laboratory for external inspections; designing and developing protocols and operating procedures for new/existing laboratory practices; overseeing maintenance of equipment, advising and assisting lab members with issues relating to equipment use and laboratory protocols; innovating and improving lab procedures and practices to impact research efficiency; ordering and organizing supplies; assisting with and performing experiments under guidance of research personnel; participating in lab events/meetings; and organizing lab clean-ups and other activities. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: B.S. or associate’s degree in electrical engineering, applied physics, or related field; at least one year of experience working full-time in a research laboratory or its equivalent; willingness to be trained in areas where current expertise is lacking and to train diverse users in techniques and policies; strong organizational and communication skills; attention to detail; ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people; familiarity with spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation software; and expertise in one relevant programming language (e.g., Python or MATLAB). The ideal candidate has specific domain expertise in free-space optical and fiber-optical systems, electronics, mechanical systems, vacuum and gas handling systems, laboratory control software systems (e.g., LabVIEW, MATLAB, etc.), and cryogenic systems and handling.

RLE is open to the position being full- or part-time.

Must be available for occasional night and weekend work to handle emergencies.

This is a one year position eligible for renewal based upon funding.
