MANAGER OF ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT SERVICESComputer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), to manage the administrative workforce of twenty-plus who support 75+ principal investigators (PIs) and their respective research groups.  Will hire, train, and advocate for administrative assistants. Responsibilities include recruiting, balancing staff workloads, resolving difficulties, promoting growth and recognizing merit, and identifying the changing needs of the organization to ensure steady and consistently excellent service to the PIs. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, human resources, or closely related field; four years’ supervisory/management experience; strong leadership and human-centered supervisory skills; ability to develop and manage staff performance and build cohesive, high-performing teams; excellent strategic thinking, organizational, problem-solving, conflict resolution, decision making, analytical, financial, interpersonal, relationship management, client service, and written and verbal communication skills; and good judgment, tact, and discretion with confidential information and in all communication; self-motivation; and strong word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software skills and working knowledge of the Internet and ability to learn new software.  Must be able to work effectively across all levels in a team-based environment; set priorities, manage multiple tasks, evaluate and revise plans/methods, and meet competing deadlines; work well under pressure; make decisions and act independently while keeping PIs and directors informed; drive organizational change; anticipate consequences of actions, potential problems, or opportunities for change. 

PREFERRED: relevant HR work experience; familiarity with MIT and/or experience working in a university setting; experience supporting research initiatives in an administrative capacity; understanding of resource planning and scheduling; familiarity with Cognos, Concur, MS Office, and web editing software; experience establishing competencies and developing associated training programs; project management experience; and experience developing and managing budgets. Job #18245-9

Must be able to attend evening and/or weekend meetings/events and travel on occasion.
