University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) is inviting applications for a Director of Research and Knowledge Exchange
As the Director of Research and Knowledge Exchange (RKE), you will lead and manage the Research and Knowledge Exchange (RKE) Office and assist the Vice Provost for Research & Knowledge Exchange (VP for RKE) to bring strategic, managerial and executive leadership in developing and implementing the University’s Research and Knowledge Exchange strategy.
Working with academic and professional services staff, you are expected to establish achievable yet stretching targets and KPIs for all areas of activity and provide review against these parameters; as well as direct and manage the budgetary and staff deployment of the RKE Office.
Reporting to the VP for RKE, you should have a close working relationship with equivalent role holders at University of Nottingham UK (UNUK) and University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM), and directors of university level research centres / institutes at UNNC.
You will be tasked with the following responsibilities (but not be limited to):
- Directing the operations of the RKE function to achieve institutional objectives; including guidance to maximise RKE income to the University from public and private sector organisations;
- Leading and managing the RKE Office including directing and managing the budgetary and staff deployment, financial planning and delectation of responsibilities;
- Forging strong relationships with research, funding and investment organisations to ensure the University remains competitive and following best practices in the sector;
- Growing and developing the RKE initiatives of the University;
- Producing policy and procedures associated with support for the RKE activities of the University;
- Maintaining effective communication of Vision and Mission objectives to staff and ongoing professional development programmes to ensure a highly trained, professional team.
We are looking for someone with extensive management experience in research and knowledge exchange. With a bachelor’s degree qualifications or equivalent, you will need to be an effective communicator at all levels in the organization and possess strong leadership and people management skills. You should have extensive experience in leading and managing research support, business development and commercialism in higher education sector. You should also have a proven and successful record in building, maintaining and leveraging an extensive network of senior contacts in relevant sectors and portray a comprehensive understanding of the higher education and external environment, especially as it relates to research, business engagement and commercialisation.

This position will be offered a three-year fixed-term contract initially and can be extended on an indefinite basis based on mutual agreement.
