Visiting Academic Position
The Department of English Studies at the University of Cyprus invites applications for one (1) Visiting Academic position at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor in Linguistics for the Spring Semester 2020–21 pending final approval and funding by the University authorities.
The successful candidate will be required to teach:
ENG 25x: Topics in Semantics and Pragmatics, a second-year undergraduate course, compulsory for the Linguistics track of the BA in English Studies; and
ENG 26x: Topics in Morphology and Syntax, a second-year undergraduate course, compulsory for the Linguistics track of the BA in English Studies; and
One elective course within their specialization, which will be an advanced seminar to third- and fourth-year undergraduate students within the Linguistics track of the BA in English Studies.
Teaching duties begin on 18 January 2021, ending no later than 31 May 2021, depending on the final exam.
Monthly gross salaries for these positions as Visitors are approximately:
- Visiting Academic (Assistant Professor): €3.122,1
- Visiting Academic (Lecturer): €2.723,17
The above amounts can be subject to changes imposed by the Government.
The successful candidate will be required to teach and guide students. She or he will also administer and mark the final exam for the course she or he will teach.
Applicants need not be citizens of the Republic of Cyprus. Applicants should however ensure, before applying, that in case they are selected they will be residing in Cyprus on a full-time basis during the employment period; submission of application implies acceptance of this condition. Acceptance of this term must be also explicitly stated in the letter of application.
Applicants should hold a PhD on a relevant subject.

- Copies of degrees and transcripts (The successful candidate(s) will be asked to submit certified copies from the Ministry of Education of Cyprus (if degrees were acquired in Cyprus) or from the respective institution abroad.)
- Two representative publications
If applying for the first time to the Department, applicants must also arrange for two academic referees to send letters of recommendation directly to it (see below). The names and addresses of these referees must be submitted with the application. In case an applicant is employed in the public or wider public sector of the Republic of Cyprus, she/he must obtain permission to work at the University from the appropriate Department/Ministry, or wider public sector authority.
