We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Researcher to join the Lab of Professor Ranade on a 12 month fixed term contract funded by the Leverhulme Trust. The project involves a new way of removing sulphur from fuels. You will be involved in developing a novel, hydrodynamic cavitation based oxidative desulphurisation process. Hydrodynamic cavitation devices based on rotational flows will be used for this purpose. You will design systematic experiments of oxidative desulphurisation using these cavitation devices; first with model organic liquids such as dodecane and then with real fuels such as diesel. You will also be involved in developing computational models to simulate oxidative desulphurisation experiments. It is expected that the project will lead to a new, truly distributed way of removing sulphur from transportation fuels.
The successful candidate must have:
- Degree in chemical engineering or related engineering subject.
- Hold a PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related subject.
- At least three years research experience of using hydrodynamic cavitation for advanced oxidation processes at postgraduate or postdoctoral level.
- Demonstrable experience of developing computational models of advanced oxidation processes based on hydrodynamic cavitation

The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is fully committed to the Athena SWAN Charter to encourage the advancement of the careers of women in science, engineering and technology (SET) in higher education and research. Our policies are in line with the University leadership in fostering an ethos of gender equality. In April 2012, QUB was the first UK University to be awarded a Silver institutional Athena SWAN Award. We are ranked 1st in the UK for Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (Innovate UK), 9th in the UK for University facilities (Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2018) and 14th in the UK for research quality (Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019).
Based in Belfast, a modern capital city, our beautiful campus is surrounded by abundant acres of parkland and is renowned as one of the safest and affordable cities in the UK. The choice of local Schools from pre-nursery upwards are some of the best available, and lovers of the outdoors can enjoy any number of activities from rowing and kayaking to top class golf among many others. We are immensely proud of what our city and our University will offer you.
