Starting Salary: £30,046 per annum

Hours: Full-time (36 hours per week, 52 weeks per year)

Term: Fixed-term (until 30 June 2022)

St Mary’s University, in collaboration with The Football Association, are seeking an accomplished individual to lead and drive the development of football coaches in the London and South East region, working at both established grassroots and the talented player pathway of the women’s and girls’ game.

This new role will be responsible for;

  • Recruiting, developing and providing deployment and mentor support for coaches from the university and the local catchment area.
  • Producing and owning a Coach Development Plan for the region and establishing a working group consisting of key stakeholders to develop, deliver and monitor the plan.
  • Working with the Regional Coach Development staff (FA YCDs, WNCDs, W&G CCDs, D&I CDOs, Mentors and Tutors) to ensure that Country FAs, leagues, clubs and the HEIs work collaboratively in our endeavour to increase both the number of qualified female coaches and BAME & Disabled coaches at grassroots level and the club player pathway; also ensuring effective resourcing and support is in place for those who aspire to coach at the higher level.
  • Working strategically with the FA, London, Middlesex & Surrey County FA and St Mary’s University academics to create a ‘coaching framework’ which will underpin all coach development initiatives in support of the women’s and girls’ game.

In addition, the role will develop the women’s and girl’s football offer across the institution, with specific focus on promoting widening participation, developing the student workforce, and facilitating the hosting of FA Talent Pathway activity.

The ideal candidate will have significant sports/football coach development experience, have an understanding of the FA strategic plan, the FA Future Game, the England DNA, the Blueprint for Success and promote FA coaching, teaching and learning philosophies. In addition, the candidate will demonstrate an understanding of diversity and inclusion and a commitment to promoting these principles within and through football.

Company

Established in 1850 and with a deep heritage in education, St Mary’s University, Twickenham has a strong reputation for teaching excellence and a student-centred approach.

St Mary’s University is a modern, friendly and welcoming university situated in the leafy borough of Richmond upon Thames and a short train journey away from the hustle and bustle of central London. St Mary’s is on an exciting journey of transformation and growth, to benefit students, staff and the wider St Mary’s community. As the University builds on its proud heritage, it is looking for exceptional people to help shape its progressive future.  Our current strategy, Vision 2025, is focused on people and place, with the aim of creating a positive learning environment centred on our campus.

We are a strong and welcoming community of students and staff and are committed to the highest standards in teaching across our wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. In 2019, we were again awarded Outstanding status by Ofsted and in the 2018 National Student Survey, St Mary’s ranked first in London for Teaching Excellence and Student Experience, contributing to our jump of 56 places in the NSS league table.

We have also seen our second successive significant rise in the Sunday Times Good University Guide. Our rise of 39 places since 2017 positions us as 12th in London and 77th nationality. Other significant league table changes include a rise of 25 places in the 2019 Guardian University Guide league table, to 80th in the UK, and 17 places in the Complete University Guide as a notable climber.

In addition, we have a vibrant culture and environment.

Our core values; inclusiveness, generosity of spirit, respect and excellence underpin all we do as a University and we are actively working to embed these into our daily behaviours.  We want to create the best possible conditions for our students and staff to develop into independent problem solvers and ethical leaders, enthusiastic about knowledge and learning, and able to get things done.

You will find further information on the web pages about our University. If you are excited by the opportunity to join St Mary’s and help us to realise our ambitious plans, then we look forward to hearing from you.
