Job Description Summary
Provide management of financial portfolios for PI's in the Departments of Cancer Biology (CBIO), Cell and Developmental Biology (CDB) and the Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute (AFCRI). Position will report dually to the financial management teams in CDB and AFCRI/CBIO equally with dotted line reporting to PSOM Office of Research Support Services. The entities represent a combined total of > $30m in extramural research funding from government, corporate and non-profit sponsors. Total expenditures exceed $60m annually with portfolios including some combination of grants, endowments, gifts, discretionary, internal pilots and startup funding. Labs are primarily engaged in basic science biomedical research.
Primary purpose of this role is to support the research activities of CBIO, CDB and AFCRI within the Perelman School of Medicine. Under limited supervision, this position will manage sponsored program funds and complementary sources of support, focusing on post-award oversight and providing backup for pre-award development. The successful candidate will manage the post-award processes including monitoring and review of all charges, reconciliation of accounts, preparation of monthly financial reports and periodic forecasting for Principal Investigators, maintaining salary grids, supporting the effort reporting process, ensuring compliance with internal and external policies and supporting the successful onboarding of new awards. Provides full financial reporting services, enters budgets, processing payroll and monitoring grant expenditures for compliance with sponsor regulations and guidelines, coordinating sub-awards, completion of progress reports, managing the grant closeout process, etc. Serve as backup for pre-award activity and work collaboratively across all entities to support overarching organizational financial management. This position reports to the Manager of Post Awards Grant Operations within the department and has a dotted reporting line to the PSOM Office of Research Support Services.
Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Experience managing extramural research grants strongly preferred. Strong technical skills including Office 365 suite of products, financial management and reporting software, research support systems, etc. Firm understanding of federal regulations including Uniform Guidance strongly preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently required.
