We our seeking a Finance Analyst with exceptional financial, communication, and management skills to join our growing team at Stanford University’s Department of Medicine, Clinical Excellence Research Center (CERC). CERC strives to lower healthcare spending in the United States by designing, pilot testing, and evaluating innovative models of care delivery. Our design work is enabled by research in areas including human factors, artificial intelligence and positive deviance. CERC is housed in the School of Medicine (SoM) and prides itself in its transdisciplinary collaborations and research methods.
Reporting to the Center Director of Operations, the Finance Analyst will manage the day-to-day financial functions of the Center. The Institute’s financials and operations are multifaceted. Strong organizational and analytical skills are required as the Finance Analyst will be tasked with having a significant role in supporting the financial management of the Center and effecting policies and procedures.
This is an ideal role for a finance/operations professional who is looking to have a management role. The Finance Analyst will be expected to be a key contributor, performing financial analysis, managing the annual budget cycle, providing detailed reports, interfacing with the Research Management Group to facilitate grants administration, and effecting policies and procedures. The Finance Analyst will also be responsible for implementing operational processes for administrative and financial functions to improve efficiencies and internal controls, and be expected to help identify and develop solutions to improve workflow effectiveness and best practices for productivity standards.
The Finance Analyst should be able to professionally represent the Center with internal and external stakeholders, have significant skill with managing diverse relationships, and must have exceptional people skills with a propensity to serve and lead. Having direct reporting to SoM, this is an excellent opportunity for someone wishing to gain greater exposure to SoM leadership.
- Manage the finances across all sources for the annual budget (gifts, foundation and industry grants), including developing, monitoring, analyzing, forecasting and reporting. Construct and assemble data for budgeting and decision making. Develop conclusions, and present high level summary of recommendations.
- Approver for all CERC expenditures, contracts, gifts, labor distributions, and PTA’s within spending limits.
- Perform and design ad hoc analyses of large complex data sets: reconcile complex accounts. Identify and resolve complex issues which may span multiple areas.
- Develop reports and presentations of complex financial data and metrics for management, CERC donors & sponsors.
- Manage and coordinate grants and contracts for the department, in conjunction with RMG, OSR and ICO. Ensure compliance with institutional and external requirements.
- Evaluate business processes and operational and/or financial effectiveness. Analyze and resolve complex issues and provide alternative solutions as necessary. Lead process improvement for CERC financial matters.

- Experience with sponsored research, higher education, and/or healthcare.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
- Bachelor’s degree and four years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
- Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems; internet and computer literacy.
- Knowledge of GAAP.
- Strong communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences and client groups.
- Demonstrated project management skills and ability to contribute to or lead part of a multi-functional team.
- Grants administration experience.
- Constantly sitting.
- Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork.
- Occasionally stand/walk, lift/carry objects weighing 11-20 pounds.
- Rarely reach/work above shoulder.
