Consisting of three National Schools, the Faculty of Health Sciences plays a critical role in preparing highly qualified graduates for health workforce of the future andis the largest provider of graduate nurses in Australia. ACU works with national networks of key health services to enhance education and research outcomes and offers a wide scope of undergraduate and postgraduate health courses that have been developed in conjunction with health professionals and industry. The goals of the Faculty reflect the University Mission, focused on ACU health graduates demonstrating excellence in practice, service and empathy. The Faculty aims to educate qualified graduates who will contribute to promoting health and preventing illness for Australia’s health and sports industries as well as providing quality health care for vulnerable individuals and groups.
As part of the University Innovation Strategy, work is progressing to refresh course offerings including new digital health and interdisciplinary programs that will place ACU at the cutting edge of higher education in health sciences. This will also serve to increase connections with world leading researchers nationally, internationally and across the Faculty’s Research Institutes (Mary Mackillop Institute for Health Research and Institute for Positive Psychology and Education) and a growing number of smaller Research Centres and Institutes (Healthy Brain and Mind Research Centre, Nursing Research Institute, Research Centre for Sports Performance, Recovery, Injury and New Technologies).
This is an outstanding opportunity to lead the Faculty in the next stage of its development, playing a critical role in supporting course innovation and improving student experiences aligned to the needs of the health workforce of the future, as well as driving research engagement across disciplines and academic units. The Executive Dean will be a key stakeholder in leading ACU’s collaborative work with health industry partners and international Catholic universities on shared goals, requiring an individual with strong relationship-building qualities and able to facilitate meaningful and impactful partnerships with industry partners. Reporting directly to the Provost and supported by the Faculty leadership team, the Executive Dean will be an effective communicator, working closely with staff, students and external stakeholders to achieve the optimum outcomes for the University.
