Power System Analysis/Energy Analytics/DER Management/Model Predictive Control Optimization

Energy Research Institute @ NTU invites applications for the position of Research Fellow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & develop optimization algorithms/tools to build an application platform at VPP enterprise level that can aggregate, optimize & manage the Distributed Energy Resources including energy storage systems in providing energy and ancillary services to advanced grid operations
  • Capturing all the system and device-level operational constraints, uncertainties in the optimization-based decision-making process through stochastic optimization formulation/approximate dynamic programming approach
  • Research into potential system architectures & state-of-the-art optimization techniques that can be implemented in distribution resource management
  • Be an R&D team lead to define & achieve the project goals, as well as a hands-on technologist and domain/industry expert in commercial solution development, system integration & implementation
  • Work closely with fellow researchers, developers, partners and/or external vendors for timely project delivery
  • Any other ad-hoc duty or responsibility; e.g., project presentation, progress report preparation, procurement and research collaborations etc. assigned by the project supervisor

Job Requirements:

  • PhD degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering/Computer Science/Control Engineering, specialized in Power system analysis/Energy Analytics/DER management/Model Predictive Control Optimization
  • Optimization problem formulation & solution techniques: LP, NLP, MILP, MINLP, Heuristics, Dynamic Programming
  • Optimization under uncertainty (e.g., robust/stochastic approach-based DER network optimization)
  • Distributed energy resources modeling/management & integrated grid ancillary services devoted to time-critical
  • Grid operations to maintain reliability and stability (e.g., voltage/power management, fast demand response, contingency reserve, peak demand management, regulation service (voltage/frequency), battery storage system stack services, and electric vehicles (V2G/G2V))
  • Decomposition techniques to tackle real-time control & computational problems in distribution resource management
  • Working knowledge of solvers e.g. GLPSOL, CPLEX, and GUROBI
  • Proficiency in Programming languages R and Python, and mathematical packages/tools such as GLPK, AMPL, GAMS, YALMIP and Matlab
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong analytical and conceptual abilities
  • Able to work independently and in a team to realize the proposed works
