Energy Research Institute @ NTU invites applications for the position of Research Fellow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Development of statistical and machine learning models for probabilistic predictors at various time horizon, and temporal/spatial resolution. A particular attention will be attached to the characterization of the forecast error that will furtherly be integrated in the energy management strategies
  • Develop AI based system component modelling to support optimisation, forecast, asset and operation management
  • Data exploration and data imputation to support AI-Informed system analysis and operation management
  • Work closely with the optimization team that will provide some of the problem inputs, and the software team that will integrate the developed algorithms in the DERMS platform

Job Requirements:

  • PhD Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering/ Data Science, with expertise in data analysis and forecast
  • Minimum 2 to 5 years of experience
  • Have an established publication record in a relevant field - Electrical Engineering or Computer Science / Data science with expertise in data analysis and forecast
  • Core expertise in developing forecast algorithms for the different components and drivers of the power system (Load, Renewable, Prices etc)

Solid knowledge & strong expertise:

  • Time series forecasting with/without exogenous variables – regression techniques, data explorations, data cleaning and imputation machine learning, classification methods.
  • Machine learning/ Deep learning (ANN, RNN, LTSM, MLP etc)
  • Clustering (K-means, Self-organizing maps (SOM), K-medoids…) and evaluation methods (Davies Bouldin Index (DBI), Cluster Dispersion Index (CDI), Mean Index Adequacy (MIA) etc)
  • Prior experience in energy forecasting at various scale & time horizon – electrical load (from building to grid), solar generation (generator scale and aggregated production) and electric mobility / Short-term to Long term


  • Simulation/ modelling and development tools – Matlab, R, Tensor flow ,with emphasis on the application in statistics and data analysis
  • Programming languages (Python, Java, R, C, C++, Julia)
  • Good understanding of Renewable energy production and distribution grid would be advantageous
  • Experience in R&D cross-functional New Product/Technology Introduction (NPI/NTI) programs & commercial solution development

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to turn high-level features/requirements into detailed technical specifications that can be used by FW/SW developers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English)
  • An effective & efficient team player with good attitude & interpersonal skills
