The Weber group from School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences seeks a highly qualified Research Fellow to investigate optoelectronic responses of 2D and van-der-Waals materials at the far sub-diffraction limit.

Job Responsibilities

  • Installation, maintenance, and operation of a customized experimental set-up to couple scanning probes with conventional optics
  • Preparation and optical characterization of van-der-Waals materials and heterostructures at the sub-diffraction limit
  • Co-supervision of research students
  • Preparation of scientific publications

Job Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in experimental condensed matter physics
  • Demonstrated strong experimental skill and track record of research achievements
  • Demonstrated ability to publish high-tier research publications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (including scientific writing)
  • Ability to work independently but also to work as part of a team
  • Development of customized experimental setups to study optoelectronic responses (expertise in coupling conventional optics and scanning probes desired)
  • Experience in low temperature (T=4.2K or less) scanning tunneling microscopy desired, but not mandatory
  • Experience with optical cryostats
  • Expertise in the preparation and optical characterization of van-der-Waals materials desired

The prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Postdoctoral Fellowship (LKY PDF) was established in 1991 under the Lee Kuan Yew Endowment Fund. The Fellowship supports and promotes young and outstanding researchers to realise their full potential in the areas of Engineering, Science, Humanities, and Medicine.

The Fellowship will be awarded concurrently with the candidate's appointment as a research staff in NTU.

Eligibility: 

• Excellent academic records and research potential.
• Recent PhD graduates, or with at most 1 postdoctoral training from a reputable university. 

Terms and Conditions: 
• The Fellowship will be tenable for a period of 3 years.  
• In addition to an attractive remuneration, the successful candidate will be awarded a research grant of S$180,000 for research consumables and research related expenditure.
