About the Department of Chemical Engineering

The opportunity

MSE is seeking to appoint a motivated and collaborative emerging academic with a background in biochemical engineering research. The role will focus on developing novel methods to improve the nutrient content of a range of dairy products. This Research Fellow opportunity is an exciting chance to further advance your academic career as well as work closely with a range of industry partners.

You will work under the supervision of Associate Professor Greg Martin and Professor Sally Gras, investigating the relationship between protein content and the structure and texture of dairy products. You will work closely with industry partners to conduct this research, including conducting technical reviews of scientific and patent literature. As a senior member of the research lab you will be expected to conduct high quality experimental research and help lead lab operations.

About you

You will be passionate researcher driven by the opportunity to produce an excellent standard of research with real outcomes for the industry partners. Your excellent interpersonal skills will enable you to work with a diverse group of people and communicate your research to various audiences. Outstanding organisational skills and time management will support you in balancing competing priorities and delivering to project timeframes.

You will have

  • A PhD in a relevant engineering discipline, ideally with experience in food/dairy processing.
  • Experience in protein characterisation and an understanding of general principles of rheology and food microstructure.
  • Experience in using a range of analytical tools and developing new laboratory methods.
