Assistant Professor: 27,929-30,762RMB/month (with the opportunity to go to 34,219RMB/month based on future annual performance and evaluations after being in post)
Lecturer: 22,260- 24,610/month (with the opportunity to go to 27,514RMB/month based on future annual performance and evaluations after being in the post)

Department Description:

Department of Financial Mathematics at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is expected to grow in size and influence in pursuit of its vision to be a leading research group in the areas such as quantitative finance, machine learning/AI applications in finance and economics, and computational financial mathematics. The Department of Financial Mathematics is established as a separate department as a result of the restructuring of the former Mathematical Sciences Department and is expected to grow in research reputation and diversity of educational programmes. Existing staff in the Department of Financial Mathematics mainly deliver courses in the undergraduate and graduate programmes in Financial Mathematics. New degree programmes and modules are expected to be developed over time. Existing members of staff have expertise in a variety of research directions in financial mathematics, including but not limited to, machine learning/AI, fintech, forecasting, asset pricing, and financial economics with publications in well recognized international journals. The department also expects to grow its reputation in applied research and financial industry collaboration. There is also existing and potential collaboration opportunities with colleagues from the University of Liverpool as well. 

Roles & Responsibilities:

Applications are invited for the Lecturer (Assistant Professor)/Associate Professor/Senior Associate Professor positions in the Department of Financial Mathematics under the School of Science. XJTLU is a research-led university and is constantly improving its research reputation both in China and abroad. The teaching load in the Department of Financial Mathematics is comparable to top research led institutions globally. Research performance is evaluated according to well recognized research lists and citation indexes such as SCI/SSCI or ABS/ABDC lists. 

The successful candidate is expected to deliver lectures and tutorials in the areas such as financial mathematics, quantitative finance, risk quantification, machine learning/AI in finance or similar areas depending on the evolving needs of the department. The successful candidates are also expected to supervise undergraduate and graduate students in research and contribute to the university in terms of service and administration. The work load in teaching and administration is comparable to other research led universities. Successful candidates are also expected to apply for internal and external funding opportunities. 
 
Qualifications:
 
(i) Candidates must hold a PhD degree from a reputed doctoral program and with promising research and teaching potential. Promising candidates who are ABD will be considered as well. 
(ii) For senior candidates a track record of research publications in international journals and teaching experience is expected. 
(iii) Research work and expertise related to financial mathematics, computational financial math, quantitative finance or machine learning/AI in finance is highly desirable. 
(iv) Ability to use technology in teaching such as online delivery of courses and preparing technology enhanced teaching materials is desired.

Compensation Package:
 
Members of Academic Staff receive generous subsidies for accommodation, travel, children’s education, and medical insurance. A relocation allowance is provided. Non-Chinese passport holders may qualify for multi-year income tax “holidays”, depending on nationality and tax residency.
Citizenship and Visa Regulations:
 
Employment at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is regulated by Chinese Labour Laws, and must comply with the regulations of the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment with regard to obtaining work permits and visas.  Please be advised candidates over 65 may be not eligible for a work visa in the P.R. China.
