Assistant Professor, Department of Ophthalmology
The Department of Ophthalmology/Center for Advanced Retinal and Ocular Therapeutics (CAROT) at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the tenure track or clinician educator track. Expertise is required in the specific area of retinal gene therapy or retinal cell transplantation with a focus on inherited retinal degenerations. Applicants must have an M.D. or Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree.
Teaching responsibilities on the tenure track may include training of graduate students, medical students, and post-doctoral investigators. Teaching responsibilities on the clinician educator track may include training of students, trainees, residents and interns.
Clinical responsibilities may include care (diagnosis, management, and treatment) of patients with retinal disorders including retinal disorders that may be associated with syndromic conditions.
Research or scholarship responsibilities on the tenure track may include basic research relating to retinal development and retinal degeneration as well as translational research aiming to develop interventions for currently untreatable retinal diseases. Research or scholarship responsibilities on the clinician educator track may include leading independent and collaborative research relating to retinal development and retinal degenration.
The ideal candidate should have completed advanced postdoctoral training or be an early career investigator with an exceptional record of research achievement demonstrating a trajectory for success in academic medicine. Key selection criteria will be in research excellence and originality of science.
