Initiated in 1976, the Animal Genetics & Breeding Unit (AGBU), is an unincorporated joint venture of the University of New England (UNE) and NSW Department of Primary Industries.  The unit carries out research and development in genetic improvement for agricultural industries and is Australian agriculture’s leading genetic evaluation systems research group.  The unit develops and delivers improvements in genetic evaluation systems, used, to increase the economic value to industry (collectively) and individual producers, from investing in genetic improvement.

About the role

AGBU is seeking a principal research scientist with strong expertise in genetic and genomic analysis and computing methods, to lead AGBU’s research and development and implementation of advanced methods in this field. The work will underpin AGBU’s role in delivery of genetic evaluations in several species, both directly and in commercialisation partnerships, and ensure that the genetic evaluation and improvement systems developed and supported by AGBU are technically advanced and meet industry partners’ needs.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Animal Genetics or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of post-PhD working experience in the field of quantitative genetics and genetic evaluation.
