Are you a current University of Leeds undergraduate or postgraduate student with an interest in market research, customer experience, marketing communications or Mandarin Chinese teaching? Would you like to gain valuable experience of working in a cross-cultural environment to document and promote the benefits of learning Mandarin Chinese?

The Business Confucius Institute at the University of Leeds (BCI) works to promote the understanding of Chinese language and culture with a business focus on helping companies to communicate more effectively with Chinese customers. The BCI delivers a range of activities to achieve this objective, including Mandarin courses, Chinese Proficiency Exams and events that are open to all (University students, staff and the general public).

The Project Assistant will play a key role in delivering the Mandarin Aspirations Project, which will examine the student journey and develop understanding of the roles that the BCI and other partners play in students’ Mandarin learning. The project will examine motivations (why students choose to study Chinese), study experiences (such as the challenges they face and what brings them enjoyment and satisfaction) and outcomes (which may include employability, confidence and intercultural skills).

Working within the BCI team and supporting the Marketing Executive you will contribute to all stages of the project development and implementation. You will be involved in activities including developing surveys and collecting case studies, writing a project brief and liaising with video suppliers, coordinating video and photo shoots, creating content for the web and social media and organising a showcase event.

Through these activities you will have the opportunity to engage with a wide range of students and potential students internal and external to the University and develop communication, project management and intercultural skills.
