The University of Lincoln is a forward-thinking, energetic institution, with a substantial commitment to developing world-leading research and teaching. Over the coming years, the University’s strategic plan aims to deliver excellent research with impact, with a strong focus on research in agriculture and new technology. Lincolnshire is home to a significant proportion of UK agriculture and agri-business, and the University works closely alongside this sector to address the challenges of food security, climate change and sustainability in the coming century.
We seek to appoint a 0.7FTE Research Associate in Soil Science to work as part of the EU Interreg funded project SalFar. The SalFar project explores options for salt tolerant crop for coastal agriculture in the North Sea Region. This post will investigate the impact of saline irrigation on conventional UK crops, by evaluating soil properties and crop performance, alongside potential measures of remediation of soil salinity. The work will involve sampling, testing and analysis of soil and crop samples from a saline irrigation plot trial, smaller pot experiments and potentially involve some field work to farms across Lincolnshire. The ideal candidate will have research experience with soil/crop science, ideally with experience of working in salt-affected soils or with salt-tolerant crops. The role will also require engagement with multiple stakeholders, with evidence of good communications skills required.
This position does not fulfil the UK Visas & Immigration sponsorship criteria for Tier 2.
