Applications are invited for a part-time (33%) Teaching Fellow in Geoarchaeology to cover Dr. Karen Milek's teaching while she is working on a Leverhulme Trust research project. The post provides an opportunity to teach geoarchaeology topics on a range of team-taught modules, from first-year undergraduate to Masters level. This will include introductory level environmental archaeology, soils analysis, depositional processes and stratigraphy at Level 1 (Applied Archaeological Methods and Archaeology Practicals), anthropogenic soils and sediments at Level 2 (Scientific Methods in Archaeology 2), geoarchaeological approaches to the anthropocene at Level 3 (Scientific Methods in Archaeology 3, and site formation theory at Level 4 (Topics in Archaeological Science). In addition, the Teaching Fellow will have primary responsibility for delivering the Level 2 Advanced Skills in Archaeology module 'Geoarchaeology Skills for Field Archaeologists', and the Level 3/4 Specialised Aspect/Research Topic 'Current Geoarchaeology: Reconstructing Archaeological Sites'. There may also be an opportunity to supervise or co-supervise undergraduate and MSc dissertations in geoarchaeology topics, and to teach or co-teach an intensive summer course in practical geoarchaeology. Due to the blended learning model being adopted by Durham University in 2020-21, it is essential that the Teaching Fellow is willing to engage in both face-to-face and online teaching delivery.

The Teaching Fellow will report to Dr. Sarah Semple (Head of Department) and Dr. Tom Moore (Director of Education), and will receive advice, support, and teaching materials from Dr. Karen Milek.

Teaching Fellowships offer the opportunity of valuable experience to those early in their academic careers and the University is keen to maximise the benefit to as many people as possible. The post of Teaching Fellow will involve a teaching load commensurate with a part-time post (0.33FTE), which may extend into the summer period, and there may be related scholarship and the opportunity for administrative duties which relate to education and pedagogy. The post is for a fixed term only, and it is not anticipated that the post will be extended beyond this fixed term.

Successful applicants will, ideally be in post by 5 October 2020.

The University provides a working and teaching environment which is inclusive and welcoming and where everyone is treated fairly with dignity and respect. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate these key principles as part of the assessment process.
