The Department of Communications and New Media in the Faculty of Arts and Social Science at the National University of Singapore invites applicants for the following positions to begin in July 2021:

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Educator Track) in Creative Cultural Industries

Candidates will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: creative cultural industries, popular culture and media, cultural studies in Asia, global media communication, and critical race and media studies. Candidates will have demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends in creative industries and cultural studies; demonstrated engagement in the cultural, political and ethical implications of race, gender, sexuality, social class and social practice, and; demonstrated current industry knowledge of and networks in creative cultural and media industries in Singapore and Asia.

Qualifications: Successful candidates must have a PhD in Cultural Studies, Media and Communications Studies, or closely related discipline by date of appointment; evidence of excellent teaching; approximately 3 years of teaching experience in higher education settings.

Responsibilities: Successful candidates are expected to teach 220-280 hours per academic year. Successful candidates will be expected to teach in the Communications and New Media undergraduate programme, the multidisciplinary minor programme in Cultural Studies, and the new Master of Communication graduate coursework programme.Other duties include supervision of honours students and graduate students, and administrative service. The anticipated start date is 1 July 2021 prior to the beginning of the semester in August 2021.

About the Department of Communications and New Media: Established in 2004, the Department of Communications and New Media is a leader in communication and new media research and education. It offers undergraduate, honours and PhD programmes in communications and new media studies, with an innovative curriculum that introduces students to key debates in the areas of media studies, communication management, interactive media design and cultural studies. Its curriculum provides students with practical skills in social media management, user interface design, and digital marketing. Its students undertake industry immersion through its compulsory internship programme. The Department also offers an undergraduate double degree with the School of Business; undergraduate minors in Interactive Media Design and Cultural Studies, and the Cultural Studies in Asia PhD programme. It has research concentrations in media psychology, health communication and cultural studies. Successful candidates for these positions will join an engaging community of more than 30 full-time faculty, and more than 700 undergraduate and graduate students.

Remuneration is competitive and includes medical, housing, relocation and other benefits. Significant research start-up funding is available if appointed on the tenure track.

  6. If applicable, a complete list of publications, grouped according to papers, books, and reviews, including page numbers, in bibliographic form.
  7. Documents on service contributions. List and elaborate on the impact of service to department/faculty/university, international academic community, and/or national and international agencies. Note that the documents on research (together with the Teaching Statement and documents on service contributions) should be no more than a maximum of 3,000 words.
  8. Teaching evaluations and peer review reports, if available. Other evidence of teaching excellence and/or other contributions to education e.g. curriculum development, pedagogical innovation, etc. should be provided.
  9. FOUR letters of reference (including one from the applicant’s PhD or post-doctoral advisor/supervisor) to be arranged by the applicant and submitted via academic jobs online.
  10. A list of modules you can teach under the Master of Communication graduate coursework programme.
