AECC University College is on an exciting journey of growth and development. At the heart of our role as a specialist health sciences university are the positive interrelationships of teaching, research and onsite practice as well as working in close partnership with our colleagues in academia and our research locally, nationally and internationally.

The University College is seeking an outstanding individual as Deputy Vice-Chancellor to support the Vice-Chancellor in the leadership and management of AECC University College, making a significant contribution to the strategic direction of the institution.

They will be responsible for the strategic and academic leadership and management of the University College’s academic Schools, its research and scholarship activity, its academic quality, and for leading the expansion of AECC University College’s education portfolio.

The post holder will have a strong personal commitment to higher education and person-centred practice in line with the values of the University College community. They will have substantial experience in healthcare education and training and have established networks and positive working relationships with key sector bodies.

Fulfilment of the responsibilities of the post will require working in partnership with Executive Team colleagues, Governors, staff and students to ensure a culture of openness, shared responsibility and collaboration.  The new Deputy Vice-Chancellor will ensure that the institution operates as an exceptional specialist HE provider, further instilling a culture of pride and aspiration, whilst building upon recent successes. This is an opportunity to shape the future of the University College and further expand its reach into new areas of health science and cutting edge practice.  

The successful candidate will have credibility and standing in a relevant academic discipline either within the higher education sector or broader research and public health. This person will have a reputation for entrepreneurial leadership and innovative thinking, combined with excellent operational and financial management acumen. A thorough understanding of the fundamental principles of running a successful institution in the UK higher education sector will be key. They will also have experience of delivering the highest standards of quality across all teaching, and experience of managing student satisfaction. The successful candidate will be an effective and highly credible ambassador for the University College engaging in external partnership building and advocacy on behalf of the institution.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity requiring visible leadership and direction both within the University College and externally across health science communities and the higher education sector. The appointee will steer the University College in developing each strand of its education, research and enterprise activity.
