ASSOCIATE MECHANICAL ENGINEER, Haystack Observatory, to work closely with senior engineers and research scientists in the area of radio and radar technology and instrumentation. Design challenges include RFI interference, cryogenic thermal management, complex hardware design, and operating sites spread across the globe. Will make contributions in areas such as structural design and analysis, fluid flow systems, mechanical/electromechanical actuation, electrical component interfaces, thermal management, circuit design and analysis, system design, deployment engineering, and legacy system support. Responsibilities will include design and analysis, creation of fabrication drawings and assembly instructions, qualification testing, prototyping, and participation in design reviews. REQUIRED: a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar field; at least one year of experience; proficiency with SolidWorks and a solid understanding of standard machining processes and dimensioning/tolerancing; attention to accuracy and detail; hands-on experience with and a strong grasp of engineering fundamentals; ability to work independently and develop creative solutions.
