Professorship (W2) of Mathematics Education
(permanent position)

commencing as soon as possible.

The future professor should be qualified in mathematics education research and cover the subject together with the existing W3-Professorship of Didactics of Mathematics and Informatics in research and teaching. Willingness to participate in interdisciplinary cooperation within the research network of the Munich Center of the Learning Sciences (MCLS, www.mcls.lmu.de), with the Munich Center for Teacher Education (MZL, www.mzl.lmu.de), as well as with colleagues at the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics.

LMU Munich seeks to appoint a highly qualified academic to this professorship and, therefore, especially encourages early-career scholars to apply. Prerequisites for this position are a university degree and a doctoral degree in mathematics education or mathematics or a comparable specific qualification. With an excellent record in research and teaching to date, prospective candidates will have demonstrated the potential for an outstanding academic career.

In addition, the successful candidate should have a degree in secondary school teaching for Mathematics and have at least three years’ experience in practical teaching in German secondary schools or comparable institutions.

Under the terms of the “LMU Academic Career Program”, in exceptional cases and subject to outstanding performance in research and teaching, the position may be converted from a W2 into a W3 Full Professorship at a later date.
