Job Description Summary

The Palliative and Advanced Illness Research Center is seeking a full-time clinical research coordinator who will be responsible for a study focused on palliative care for seriously ill patients with chronic lung disease.

Job Description

Under the guidance of the study Principal Investigator, the experienced coordinator will lead all aspects of screening and recruitment for a cross-sectional survey study of palliative care needs among hospitalized patients at 4 hospitals in the Philadelphia metro-area. Specifically, this will involve screening electronic health records for eligibility, recruiting and enrolling 432 patients via telephone or videoconference, data collection, maintaining study databases, and maintaining compliance and documentation for IRB approval.

Additional responsibilities include coordinating and attending weekly study investigator meetings, training junior staff on study procedures, participating in weekly PAIR Center-wide research meetings and monthly PAIR staff meetings, assisting with preparation of NIH study progress reports and manuscripts, and providing support for funding proposals. The coordinator must have experience acting autonomously in her/his decision-making and navigating complex systems. Excellent oral and written communication and demonstration of good judgment are essential for this position.

DUTIES:

CRC A:

  • Lead screening and enrollment for a multi-hospital palliative care needs study
  • Assist with database maintenance including data entry and report generation
  • Maintain compliance to protocols and assist with IRB documentation
  • Assist with results dissemination and manuscript development
  • Attend research team meetings

CRC B:

  • Lead screening and enrollment for a multi-hospital palliative care needs study
  • Lead database maintenance including data entry and report generation
  • Independently submit and manage IRB documentation and regulatory compliance
  • Assist with results dissemination, manuscript, and proposal development
  • Attend research team meetings

QUALIFICATIONS:

CRC A: A Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years experience with clinical trial/clinical research is required. Eexperience working with institutional review boards and human research subject protection regulations is preferred.

CRC B: A Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years of clinical trial/clinical research experience is required. Master’s degree preferred. Experience with working with institutional review boards and human research subject protection regulations is required.

Strong computer skills are essential. Candidate must be comfortable working with seriously ill patients and handling sensitive health information. Candidate must be detail-oriented with excellent communication and interpersonal skills; highly organized; attentive to detail; ability to multi-task; and flexibility to shift focus between projects as needed. Experience in health care is preferred, but not required. Position contingent upon funding.
