As part of the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States, the Geodetic Institute at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Department of Geosciences, invites applications for the
Junior Professorship (W1) in Geo Sensor Systems (with tenure track to W2)
with a four year contract as a temporary public official, to be filled not later than April 1st 2021. After a positive interim evaluation, the employment will be extended to a total of six years. In the fifth year, a faculty-wide and school-wide commission will evaluate the achievements of the candidate in terms of a tenure evaluation. Following a positive evaluation, a permanent Chair (W2) of Geo Sensor Systems will be granted without a renewed selection process.
Evaluation criteria, mutually agreed upon when the position is accepted, will form the basis of the evaluation procedure. Essential elements of the evaluation will be scientific success in the form of the development of an independent research profile for the Chair of Geo Sensor Systems and its implementation in research, third-party funded projects and publications, participation in national and international peer-reviewed publications and international conferences, success in acquiring third-party funds, the initiation of co-operation projects within the faculty and in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering as well as the development of innovative and course contents in your area of expertise as well as for other degree programmes with positively-evaluated teaching performances in the faculty, also in English.
You will represent the topic of geo sensor systems in the context of geodesy and geoinformatics in research and teaching. During the temporary junior professorship you will prove that you are capable of meeting the research and teaching requirements of the field. This includes the acquisition and evaluation of data, where spatial processes are paramount (incl. distributed multi-sensor systems) as well as the further development of geo sensor systems towards a smart geodetic sensor system for the natural and built environment. We place special emphasis on your proven experience in the handling of geometry-related topic complexes from planning and measurement to evaluation and interpretation under consideration of thorough quality assessment on the basis of stringent stochastic modelling approaches and the economic efficiency principle. The fields of application of research may be in the areas of kinematic engineering geodesy (e.g. in automated driving), indoor navigation, Building Information Modelling or Smart Cities. As core competencies, we expect methods of deterministic and stochastic modelling of measurement processes, knowledge of physical sensor models, the recording and modelling of environmental conditions and all other relevant influencing variables as well as the indirect determination of target variables and their quality parameters. Your teaching obligations include specific basics and competencies of engineering geodesy in study programmes of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. We expect your willingness to offer relevant courses in other (also English-speaking) study programmes ofTU Dresden. Your tasks in teaching also include further development and internationalisation of the study programmes.
We expect in-depth knowledge and experience in the field of geo sensors in connection with corresponding geodetic evaluation methods as well as your interest and your ability to participate in environment-related collaborative research. You are internationally proven in the field of geo sensor systems and able to demonstrate successful preliminary work, especially in interdisciplinary co-operation. We are looking for an internationally recognized scientist with a record of high-ranking publications. International networks and experience in the acquisition of third-party funding are proven by your successful research co-operations or future projects. Requirements for an appointment are a completed university degree, pedagogical suitability, a particular aptitude for academic work, usually accounted for by the outstanding quality of a doctorate/PhD. We seek outstanding candidates in an early phase of their academic career. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 63 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG) and should be in an early stage of their postdoctoral phase. Candidates who hold a TUD PhD (or equivalent) must have worked for at least two years in a research position outside of TU Dresden to be eligible.
