University Assistant (post doc) at the Department for Teacher Education

With 27 subjects, one specialization and over 12,000 students enrolled in teacher education programmes the University of Vienna is the biggest teacher education institution in Austria. The Centre for Teacher Education is the organizational focal point for all questions regarding the teacher education programme at the University of Vienna. In cooperation with the other faculties and centres as well as the partner organizations of the 'Verbund Nord-Ost'; it aims to strengthen and further develop the quality of research and teaching in the field of teacher education. We're searching for a committed university assistant (post doc) for the section Education / Digital Education and Learning at the Department for Teacher Education.

Both learning with digitalisation, in the sense of using digital teaching and learning materials, as well as learning about digitalisation, in the sense of a constructive and critical perspective on the potentials and risks of digitalisation, link research and teaching in the field of digitalisation in education. Both types of learning ideally result in learning for digitalisation and thus in an empowerment for self-determined use of technology in the context of education and for social participation and competence in shaping the digital transformation.

Duration of employment: 6 year/s

Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description:
Ideally, you are able to understand technology-supported forms of teaching and learning from, for example, a social, educational science or psychological perspective, to accompany these didactically and to evaluate their impact and effects scientifically. In doing so, you will deal with both traditional educational technologies and various forms of distance learning, thereby focusing on the school context, as well as on university didactics.

Your tasks / responsibilities:
- Active participation in research, teaching and administration. This involves
- Developing and strengthening your own research profile
- Involvement in research projects / research studies
- International publications and presentations
- Responsibility for project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding
- Preparing / writing a (publication-ready) habilitation thesis
- Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Supervision of students
- Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance
- Involvement in department administration as well as in teaching and research administration

Profile:
- Doctorate/PhD for example in educational science, educational sociology, educational psychology, computer science or other relevant disciplines
- Interdisciplinary orientation and the willingness to work across disciplines
- Professional competencies in one or more of the following areas: Educational Technologies, Didactic Models, Media Didactics, Curriculum Development, Technology-Based Learning, Conceptual Modelling, Digital Learning Environments and Platforms, Distance Learning
- Methodological competencies in qualitative and quantitative research with a focus on teaching and learning research, user-centre design, design-based research
- Didactic competences in tertiary (and ideally also in secondary) education, teaching experience in learner-centred and research-led teaching
- High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- IT user skills
- Ability to work in a team

In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have
- Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning
- Experience of working on research projects
- Publications in renowned, subject-relevant media (peer-reviewed, depending on the professional standards)
- International presentation experience
Desirable qualifications are
- Knowledge of university processes and structures
- Experience abroad
- Experience of supervising students
