The Department of Neuroscience is a newly created and rapidly growing academic unit committed to excellence in research and education.  We are seeking outstanding applicants for faculty positions at Chair Professor, Professor, Associate Professor or Assistant Professor levels, dependent upon experience and accomplishments. The primary focus of the positions is research and teaching, with some shared administrative responsibilities. The Department of Neuroscience has active postgraduate programmes and is developing curricula for an undergraduate programme.

Duties

The appointee is expected to provide leadership in teaching and research in the area of neuroscience; teach both undergraduate and postgraduate courses; conduct cutting edge research and supervise research students; carry out administrative work and other duties that facilitate the development of the College and the Department as a whole; and support the University’s core mission of excellence in professional education and research.

Requirements

Applicants must have a PhD, MD or equivalent degree, with demonstrated ability to lead an independent neuroscience research programme that is complimentary to the research strengths of the Department including glial neurobiology, cognitive and behavioural neuroscience, neural substrates of learning and memory, regenerative medicine, neurological disease pathophysiology, molecular and cellular neuroscience, functional brain circuitry and imaging and systems neuroscience.  Candidate shall demonstrate his/her ability to become a leader in innovative neuroscience.  Research directions with translational potential and that support an intellectual climate fostering local and international collaborations are encouraged.

Candidates for Associate Professor and above should have a distinguished academic record including significant external funding support and high impact publications, demonstrated leadership skills, and a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate education.  Successful candidates are expected to develop internationally competitive research programmes; assume academic and administrative leadership in the Department by assisting in faculty development; promote collaboration in cross-disciplinary teaching and research programmes within the University; and facilitate the translation of neuroscience discoveries to with potential healthcare benefits.

Candidates for Assistant Professor are expected to have strong research and academic track records, and to have developed a rigorous, extramurally funded research programme.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance.  Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable).  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
