We are seeking to appoint a Research Statistician/Epidemiologist/Psychologist/Geneticist to investigate the aetiology of child and adolescent mental health at the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit (IEU) at the University of Bristol.

You will work on a Wellcome Trust funded collaborative grant (between Cardiff and Bristol) “Neurodevelopmental Disorders: What happens when children grow up and Why” to determine the longer-term neurodevelopmental impacts of early life exposures and risks and apply longitudinal data analyses on neurodevelopmental traits measured across multiple cohorts.

Who we are looking for: You will have a strong background in statistics, epidemiology, psychology, or statistical genetics with experience using statistical programming languages (such as Stata, R and MPlus) and working with large-scale datasets. You will also have experience of applied statistical analysis and will have a good understanding of longitudinal analysis.

As the successful applicant, you will work within Programme 1 (Mendelian randomization) at the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit (IEU) at the University of Bristol supervised by Dr Evie Stergiakouli, Prof. George Davey Smith and Prof Kate Tilling. As the post-holder, you will also work jointly with and will have the opportunity to visit colleagues at the MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics, Cardiff University and specifically Prof Anita Thapar as well as international collaborators in Norway (MoBa), London (E-Risk, TEDS), New Zealand (Dunedin Cohort) and Brazil (Pelotas Birth Cohort).

As the appointee, you will be analysing large longitudinal datasets (such as the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC, www.bris.ac.uk/alspac) and MoBa, the Norwegian Mother, Father and Child Cohort Study, applying longitudinal data analyses, developing trajectories of quantitative traits measured across cohorts as well as Mendelian randomization analyses and other genetic epidemiological methods. As the appointee, you will work collaboratively with many researchers across the Unit and with external collaborators.

The appointment will be full time or part-time on Grade I or J, depending on the extent of previous relevant research experience, and is offered as an open ended contract with funding until 2022 with the possibility to extend this further if more funding becomes available.
