A Research Fellow position is currently available in the Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute - Advanced Environmental Biotechnology Centre (NEWRI-AEBC).

Job Responsibilities

  • Support research work on wastewater-based epidemiology and perform routine laboratory techniques – (sewage sample preparation, nucleic acid extraction, reagent preparation, environmental/biochemical assays, etc.)
  • Work synergistically with PI and Co-I in experimental designs, conducting experiments, troubleshooting and data analysis
  • Conduct experiments involving wastewater and sludge treatment for removal and inactivation of  human pathogens
  • Support existing research personnel with WBE research
  • Provide expertise on molecular biology for WBE analysis
  • Design the sampling protocols and analytical methods applicable for different types analysis proposed
  • Design, conduct and troubleshoot experiments in the laboratory
  • Provide training to research associate/assistant on the relevant skills for the proposed project
  • Summarize the findings in this project and produce the final report and recommendations for the sustainable treatment of sludge
  • Research on sampling, sample preparation and characterization with focus on wastewater
  • Research surrogate virus inactivation experimental design and activities
  • Assist on QA/QC control measures and data management

Job Requirements:

  • PhD degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Environmental & Water Technology or other related science/life science disciplines
  • Newly graduated candidates are welcome to apply
  • One year working experience is a plus
  • Knowledge and experience on operation, data analysis, sample preparation for molecular biology (e.g. PCR, ELISA, analytical instruments (e.g. HPLC, GC, FTIR, GC-MS, IC, ICP-OES, ICP-MS or some of these) is highly preferred
  • Knowledge of sample preparation and method development is a plus.
