A Research Associate position is currently available in the Asian School of the Environment .

Job Responsibilities

  • Compile and develop extensive datasets for hazards, risk and vulnerability assessment using various GIS techniques
  • Develop analytical models for risk assessment of coastal cities in South-East Asia
  • Assist with planning and coordination of field data collection
  • Assist with writing regular internal reports, and external communications
  • Participate and contribute in all project research and management meetings

Job Requirements

  • Masters degree in environmental system sciences, or other related quantitative field
  • Understanding and experience with the risk analysis, resilience frameworks, vulnerability assessment particularly for natural hazards
  • Understanding and experience with programming, preferably applied to earth and environmental systems modeling
  • Experience with statistical programming with R
  • Experience and comfort with GIS tools

  • Logical thinking and creative problem solving is essential
  • Ability to examine data and results critically for potential errors and inconsistencies
  • Self-driven, highly motivated, collaborative, with interest to work with other researchers and scientists (team player) to produce high-quality and impactful research
  • Ability and interest to conduct field work in South-East Asian cities
  • Excited to contribute to reducing the vulnerability of communities in South-East Asia and beyond
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

The prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Postdoctoral Fellowship (LKY PDF) was established in 1991 under the Lee Kuan Yew Endowment Fund. The Fellowship supports and promotes young and outstanding researchers to realise their full potential in the areas of Engineering, Science, Humanities, and Medicine.

The Fellowship will be awarded concurrently with the candidate's appointment as a research staff in NTU.

Eligibility: 

• Excellent academic records and research potential.
• Recent PhD graduates, or with at most 1 postdoctoral training from a reputable university. 

Terms and Conditions: 
• The Fellowship will be tenable for a period of 3 years.  
• In addition to an attractive remuneration, the successful candidate will be awarded a research grant of S$180,000 for research consumables and research related expenditure.
