Overview

The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), operated by Princeton University, is seeking an energetic, visionary and experienced recruiter to oversee Talent Acquisition at PPPL. As the sole Talent Acquisition Specialist at PPPL, you will be responsible for fostering and maintaining relationships with department leaders, hiring managers and potential recruits, overseeing workforce planning, outreach, hiring, the candidate experience and weaving diversity initiatives throughout.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the ideal candidate is a people-lover, and possess a professional recruitment approach to reach uniquely qualified and world-renowned talent, building a robust network and active talent pipeline.  As a member of a cross-functional HR team, the Talent Acquisition Specialist will partner with other members of the HR team, and work collaboratively with all levels of management to implement HR practices and procedures related to staffing and hiring.  This work scope is supported by a Recruiting Coordinator who assist in coordinating interviews, processing records within iCIMS, delivers the new hire orientation, and coordinates the onboarding process, enabling high-volume and high-quality hiring. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform full life cycle recruiting for a high volume of positions ranging from professional level (exempt) to nonexempt roles.
  • Provide advice and guidance to hiring managers on recruiting and staffing, acting as the subject matter expert (SME) on recruitment selection process.
  • Conduct robust search committee meetings at the launch of a search, discuss the workforce and staffing needs of the customer and provide hiring managers guidance on a specific recruitment plan; determine which workforce needs should be fulfilled by temporary firms or by contracts.
  • Conduct outreach and maintain active networks with top talent across the PPPL research profile, review, screen candidates and make recommendations for interviews based on identified business.
  • Enable a best-in-class candidate experience through smooth transitions over the entire hiring lifecycle from intake, recruiting, to interviewing, relocation, orientation and onboarding
  • Provide oversight for measuring and improving the recruitment process, including the candidate experience, new hire experience and for improving the diversity of interview pools, utilizing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as necessary.
  • Stay current on recent federal, state and local case law changes; monitor labor law updates and newsletters for changes and communicate to lab leadership.
  • Develop solutions to moderately complex problems, with limited supervision or oversight.
  • Execute outreach strategies that impact PPPL’s reputation, working closely with the Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Business Partner and other stakeholders to drive efforts that increase the pipeline and diversity of candidate pools.
  • Collaborate with PPPL compensation and hiring managers to recommend competitive offers, proactively creating solutions to increase offer acceptance rate.
  • Support the development and strategic implementation of policies, procedures and tools to support recruitment efforts, while fostering positive relationships between employees and managers.
  • Seek to implement improvements that increases quality of hires and improve time-to-fill

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years' recruitment and/or staffing experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, including 5 years in a recruitment function.
  • Experience in high volume full life cycle recruiting and talent acquisition with focus on developing diverse candidate pools.
  • Experience with behavioral based interviewing techniques and practices.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
  • Experience with robust applicant tracking systems, iCIMS preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology (i.e. iCIMS, MS Office, HRIS systems) to gather, interpret, organize, and present data.
  • Must possess sound judgment and critical thinking skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and administer broad range of tasks including resolving complaints, coaching and counseling managers and employees on policies and procedures.
  • Able to collaborate, influence and command the respect and confidence of campus partners and have the capacity to deal with a wide range of relationships and situations.
  • Strong organizational skills; evidence of self-motivation; demonstrated ability to plan, schedule and work both independently and in teams within a service-oriented organization.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple projects and competing priorities while balancing the need for quality with meeting deadlines.

Preferred qualifications:

  • HR certification (PHR, SPHR)
  • Experience with VISA sponsorship (H-1B, J-1, TN, etc)
  • Experience in higher education, within the Department of Energy (DOE) complex, or a service-oriented organization
