Job Details

Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute invites applications for the position of Research Fellow. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Using a suite of separation techniques, eg adsorption, precipitation, membrane filtration, chromatography, to separate and purify a range of high value added biological solutes (polypeptides, antibiotics, lipids, carbohydrates) present in either food wastewaters or fermentation broth
  • Identifying “valuable” solutes within these wastewaters that can then be separated to a high purity (>95%) and then sold, or integrated into fish food
  • Re-analyse wastewater that has been fermented to SCP, and possibly other valuable by-products, to see whether other solutes are worth recovering before anaerobic treatment to recover both energy and water

Job Requirements:

  • A recognized PhD in Biochemical/Chemical Engineering, or possibly Chemistry
  • Expertise and experience in bioseparation techniques such as precipitation, adsorption, filtration and chromatography
  • Fresh PhD graduates are welcome
  • Having 2-3 years of post-doctoral experience will be advantageous

The prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Postdoctoral Fellowship (LKY PDF) was established in 1991 under the Lee Kuan Yew Endowment Fund. The Fellowship supports and promotes young and outstanding researchers to realise their full potential in the areas of Engineering, Science, Humanities, and Medicine.

The Fellowship will be awarded concurrently with the candidate's appointment as a research staff in NTU.

Eligibility: 

• Excellent academic records and research potential.
• Recent PhD graduates, or with at most 1 postdoctoral training from a reputable university. 

Terms and Conditions: 
• The Fellowship will be tenable for a period of 3 years.  
• In addition to an attractive remuneration, the successful candidate will be awarded a research grant of S$180,000 for research consumables and research related expenditure.
