The University of Bristol’s School of Modern Languages is seeking to recruit an hourly-paid Associate Teacher to deliver two taught units for the distance-learning MA in Translation during academic year 2020-2021, ‘Applied Translation (Spanish)’ and ‘Introduction to Specialised Translation (Spanish)’. All instruction will be delivered remotely via Blackboard and related education technology tools. Public health situation allowing, we may hold one on-campus meeting during the year, but remote attendance would be possible.

We welcome applications from practicing translators with a range of experience translating from Spanish into English. You should have a degree in translation, languages, or another relevant discipline; experience with UK higher education; significant professional translation experience; and near-native language abilities in English and Spanish. Candidates should have the right to work in the UK.

The role descriptor for Associate Teacher can be found here.

Hours of work are variable depending on student numbers. Given that this unit is taught entirely online through distance learning, hours are estimated on the basis of the below formula:

First 5 students in group: 8 h/student. 40 hours minimum

Every further student up to 12 students: 6 h/student

Every further student above 12 students: 5 h/student

Two staff meetings/year: 6 hours

Units in Spanish translation can be expected to recruit approximately 10-15 students per term.

The rate of pay is £22.15 per hour.
