We are seeking to recruit a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate, to conduct cutting edge research covering 5G and beyond, IoT, edge computing/cloud, security, privacy, optimization, and machine learning (AI). Knowledge and experience of 5G, IoT, edge computing, and/or security, privacy are needed. An ability of using AI, game theory, machine learning techniques would be ideal.

You will work within the SANCUS Project which is in collaboration with 14 leading industrial partners such as THALES, NOKIA, SECURA. You should be able to demonstrate (via research publications and track record) a research background in one or more of the following areas: 5G and beyond, IoT, Edge computing, Cloud Computing, Security, Privacy, Optimization Techniques, Game Theory, Machine Learning, AI.

You will be expected to write and submit high-quality research papers, disseminate research results by giving talks and tutorials to our industrial partners, at conferences and other institutions, assist with preparing grant proposals, and undertake other research activities as needed. A PhD in computer science, electronic engineering, mathematics or relevant fields is preferred.  You will have a track record of high-quality publications in areas of relevance to the project and the willingness to undertake ambitious and challenging research.  For more details, please see the detailed Person Specification for this position.

The position will be under the supervision of Professor Qiang Ni, who is Chair of Communication Systems and Networking in the School of computing and Communications.

Student Wellbeing Services are looking for a highly motivated and organised person for the role of Digital Transition Officer within the Transitions team.  

You will contribute to the digital development and co-ordination of a broad package of pre- and post-entry student support programmes, events and services.  Support will be focused on improving the transition to University and the student experience of specific Widening Participation (WP) groups including disabled students and mature students.  You will need experience of developing on-line training or support, and of developing and designing attractive web content.  You will need the ability to work independently as well as the skills to collaborate with colleagues to develop effective schemes and services.You should have experience of collection and analysing data, as well as excellent organisation and problem solving skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.  

You will need to be able to communicate and work with a wide variety of people including students, staff, parents, external organisations and colleagues within Student and Education Services. You should have experience of preparing written reports and the ability to present evaluation data in a meaningful way for a variety of audiences. Knowledge and understanding of disability would be an advantage.  Occasionally working out of normal office hours including evening and weekends will be required.
