Here at the Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking at Yale (Tsai CITY), our mission is to inspire students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines to seek innovative ways to solve real-world problems. Tsai CITY's programs enable students to develop the skills crucial to an innovative mindset: design thinking, problem-framing, creative synthesis, clear communication, and refined judgment. Drawing in students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, CITY runs a wide and inventive spectrum of programs in which students learn by doing accelerators, workshops, mentorship programs, as well as hosting speakers and alumni from a wide range of fields.

Reporting to the Managing Director at Tsai CITY, the Innovation Fellow will play a central role in advancing CITY’s mission across Yale’s campus. We are looking for an energetic, inspiring and innovative leader to help us grow develop Tsai CITY into a strong center of gravity for students at Yale who want to build innovative approaches to addressing real world problems.

Exact duties will depend upon experience and areas of personal interest. The Fellow will undertake a range of responsibilities including programming, coaching, event management, network building, outreach, and data analysis.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Support program design and management at CITY, particularly focusing on entrepreneurship, tech or creative innovation. This will include Manage a portfolio of programs, events, and workshops including evaluations and feedback.
  • Work with students and student teams to devise, refine, test, iterate, build, and launch ideas.
  • Serve as a CITY representative at events and conferences on and off campus.
  • Assist with management of CITY’s space, making it a welcoming place of collaboration and inspiration for all students.
  • Be a liaison to Yale College and graduate student organizations related to business and social entrepreneurship and innovation.
  • Manage CITY workshops, including evaluations and feedback.
  • Create one new, bold, innovative student-centric initiative at CITY.

Essential Duties

  1. In support of the overall mission, plans, directs and oversees programmatic activities.
  2. Develops, implements, and maintains operational policies and procedures.
  3. Manages program communications; identifies outreach potential, and promotes philanthropic and collaborative support of the program.
  4. Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans.
  5. Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program.
  6. Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives. Develops metrics to identify and measure the success of the program.
  7. Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications.
  8. Develops and manages the program's operating budget.
  9. Manages the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resources including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs.
  10. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in a related field and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Strong project and/or program management skills.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Ability to work with students.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Familiarity with Google Suite.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Strong working knowledge of the Yale community and connections. Demonstrated interest and experience in innovation or entrepreneurship. Comfortable working with a wide variety of constituents. Familiarity with salesforce.
