Job Details

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science

Personalised cancer therapy is dependent on accurate and informative prognostic and predictive tests to determine patient outcome in both the absence and presence of therapy, respectively. The primary aim of OPTi-PREDICT is to fast-track the validation of clinical decision support systems (DSS) for breast and prostate cancer, in both the prognostic and predictive settings. For early-stage breast cancer, we will develop the OncoMasTR DSS, to support the stratification of newly diagnosed patients into low and high-risk categories, informing treatment choice. For high-risk early-stage breast cancer, PrediCare-EarlyBC will determine the most suitable chemotherapy protocol for individual patients. Ultimately, the goal is to progress these DSS towards clinical implementation, improving survival rates and quality of life for these patients, by assigning the most appropriate treatment.

A Biostatistician is required at this point of the project, as data analysis is at a critical stage. The key deliverables of the position include: Statistical modelling and the generation of a signature, validation of the signature in other cohorts (RCSI and TAILORx) and other routine statistical task such as-generation of Kaplan Meier survival curves for individual markers. The appointed Post-Doctoral Fellow will maintain interactions with OncoMark, where the OncoMasTR signature is being developed at the RNA level and will also interact with projects investigating the panel in other cancers.

This Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) funded position will be based in the UCD Conway Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research (https://www.ucd.ie/conway/). They will report to Prof. William Gallagher (Director, UCD Conway Institute) or his delegate. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary environment and develop skills in the field of biostatistics and image analysis.
The candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, willing to adapt to working in a multi-cultural research group.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project:

  • Statistical modelling and the generation of a signature

Validation of the signature in other cohorts (RCSI and TAILORx) and other routine statistical task such as-generation of Kaplan Meier survival curves for individual markers.
