Overview

Princeton University is seeking a Digital Media, A/V and Technical Support Specialist to support its program in the Visual Arts. The support specialist assists in the day-to-day coordination of the technology needs of the program’s faculty, students and staff—in classrooms, computer labs, and exhibition spaces. The support specialist provides assistance with digital camera and film technologies, as well as the Adobe Creative Cloud suite. This role also researches and recommends equipment to support the needs of the program. The support specialist works in a busy environment, providing support for a variety of technology systems, as well as hands-on technical support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to students on digital photography and film equipment functionality and equipment recommendations for assignments.
  • Provide guidance on camera settings, such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO, picture profile, and white balance
  • Color calibrate projectors, computers, large format Epson printers, and flat panel monitors to prepare for student exhibitions
  • Color calibrate computers to use Photoshop .icc profiles to ensure accurate photo printing and eliminate saturation
  • Help students prepare exhibition spaces by staging technical and AV equipment
  • Configure, color calibrate, and maintain specialty large-format printers, such as Epson
  • Assemble kits of photography, sound, and film equipment for courses
  • Demo new and existing film, sound, printer, and computer equipment
  • Rip video files to Blu-ray
  • Attend trade shows to evaluate new products and learn about trends in photography and film
  • Install standard applications on computers, including Crashplan, Adobe Creative Cloud, Avid ProTools, and Audacity
  • Maintain department computer inventory and recommend renewals according to the life-cycle replacement program
  • Maintain annual software renewal and reserialization on department computers and maintain computer warranty documentation
  • Keep hardware, software, and operating system software up to date
  • Review the support queue and respond to department faculty and student requests
  • Troubleshoot network issues
  • Purchase equipment and supplies using the University's procurement system
  • Keep current with industry technology support certifications
  • Maintain and edit the digital equipment inventory using the ServiceNow service management system, and ensure that all equipment is functioning properly
  • Maintain, organize, and fulfill reservation requests for digital equipment
  • Maintain inventory of classroom supplies, such as paper, ink, film carriers, and printer materials (maintenance kits, reservoir tanks)
  • Create and maintain signage and classroom “how-to” documentation 

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience working to support IT and Audio/Visual needs
  • Strong experience in a variety of MS Windows and Apple hardware/software, administration, maintenance, and support of the following operating systems: MS Windows 10, MacOS (up to 10.15)
  • Proficient computer and software skills and the ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Knowledge of audio-visual and video conference technologies and services
  • Attention to detail, organization, cleanliness, and strong communication skills is a must
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Ability to lift 50 to 75 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an academic environment
  • Experience supporting digital photography and film studies computer classrooms
  • Apple ACSP certification
  • CompTIA A+ certification
  • Valid driver's license

Education 

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent related work experience
