Chair Professor of Wearable Electronics (Ref. 20072718)

The Department of Electronic and Information Engineering (EIE) and the Institute of Textiles and Clothing (ITC) jointly invite applications or nominations for the post of Chair Professor of Wearable Electronics.

Since its inception in 1974, EIE has enjoyed a distinguished history of providing outstanding engineering education and applicable research in Hong Kong.  As part of our long term strategic development, we are introducing new courses in information security and specialism in optoelectronics in Master’s degree.  This reflects both our research objectives and responds to the needs of employers in Hong Kong and beyond.   EIE has current strengths in ‘Artificial Intelligence and Robotics’, ‘Future Wireless Networks and IoT’ and ‘Photonic Systems and Devices’.  Leading scholars regularly visit EIE for research collaboration and to enhance the Department’s research profile. ITC is a leading centre for education and research in fashion and textiles in the world.  The mission of the Institute is to serve Hong Kong, neighbouring regions and the international community through the provision of world class educational programmes, research, consultancy and professional services in fashion and textiles.  ITC offers a wide range of academic programmes covering subject disciplines from fashion and textile technology, fashion and textile design, fashion business and digital fashion. These programmes are offered at various levels up to Doctoral degree in full-time and part-time learning modes. In response to the growing field of wearable technology, ITC has launched a Research Centre for Smart Wearable Technology and is actively developing a new MSc Programme in Fiber Science & Wearable Technology. Job Functions

The Chair Professor is expected to provide leadership in academic activities, including research, teaching and service in both departments.  We are seeking to appoint a senior academic with a proven track record and international research reputation in Wearable Electronics.

The appointee will be required to: 

(a)    provide leadership in all aspects of academic activities, including research, teaching and service in both departments;

(b)    provide leadership and actively engage in promoting research collaboration, securing external research grants, and enhancing research quality and publication output;

(c)    engage in scholarly research/high-level consultancy;

(d)    facilitate the two departments to gain and increase visibility and international connections;

(e)    teach and contribute to curriculum development at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;

(f)    engage in the supervision of research students (e.g., MPhil and PhD students); and

(g)    contribute to academic and departmental administration and management.

Qualifications 
 
Applicants should have:
 
(a)    a doctoral degree in a related field;

(b)    an international reputation in research and scholarship;

(c)    a strong record in attracting research funding and excellence in research outputs; 

(d)    a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning;

(e)     a global perspective, proven academic leadership and demonstrated ability to foster collaboration with faculty members with different cultural and research backgrounds in teaching, intellectual contributions and service activities; and 

(f)    ability to bring more visibility, prestige and reputation to the University.
